Another week, another Supercars race … how good! This weekend we’re in Townsville for the NTI Townsville SuperSprint
Nelson and I safely made the drive from Darwin to Far North Queensland during the week, and we arrived in Townsville Tuesday night. I’ve spent the last few days doing some training on the bike and getting prepped for the weekend. With all these back-to-back race events my training regime has changed a bit. It’s a lot more about recovery and making sure my body is hydrated and strong and ready to go again.
I’m excited to be back racing at the Townsville street circuit for this week and the following week, it’s a fun track and street tracks are always awesome to drive at.
Last year we struggled here as a team, I think we were only just inside the top ten and we weren’t happy at all with our pace. Twelve months on and Car 8 has been much stronger overall. We’ve made some good gains with the set up over the last few events, so I’m confident that will show itself here as well.
Ideally I want to finish inside the top six in all of the races across the next two weekends, and hopefully I can bring some more silverware home for Nelson (even though he doesn’t really care unless he can drink out of the trophies).
If we can have a nice solid consistent three races and then a trouble-free preparation for the following Townsville event, that would be ideal. In the meantime, I’m enjoying the sunshine and gorgeous weather here in the tropical north of the country.
It’s been great to spend time on the road with the team, because normally I don’t get to see the guys in BJR as much with the team based in Albury and me in Melbourne. I’m appreciative that we’ve had all this time to hone in on our race prep and fingers crossed the results this weekend are a reward for all their hard work!
