A single drum smooth roller, also known as a smooth drum compactor, is a ride-on compaction machine that features a large cylindrical drum. The drum is mounted to the front of the machine, while tyres at the rear provide stability.
The design of a single drum roller makes it ideal for compaction scenarios where high-pressure impact is required. In particular, a single smooth drum roller is suited to projects where uneven surfaces need to be compacted.
A single smooth drum roller can be used to compact various loose materials, including soil, sand and gravel. This makes it an ideal machine for roadworks crews looking to compact road bases like asphalt, cement stabilised bases, subgrades and subbases; construction businesses forming foundations for buildings, bridges or other critical infrastructure; and landscapers preparing to lay top-level surfaces in hilly or uneven terrain.
Smooth drum rollers are available in both single- and twin-drum varieties. Where a single drum roller features one front-mounted drum, a dual drum roller is equipped with rollers front and rear. Single drum rollers offer more flexibility in tight or smaller areas, while twin drum rollers are better suited for large, flat surfaces where even compaction is essential.
A range of surfaces can be compacted using a single drum roller, including soil, gravel and other sub-base materials. Asphalt can also be compacted using these machines, however, a dual drum roller will create a smoother and more even surface in level applications.
Many of our single drum rollers include vibration technology. These features prevent materials from jamming inside the drum, ensuring maximum performance when compacting dense surfaces.
