Mini Excavator Hire

Mini excavators are small machines ideal for earthmoving in compact spaces. A mini excavator is sometimes referred to as a small digger and features a smaller tail swing to aid manoeuvrability and enable landscaping of all corners of your building site.

Tackle tight spaces with Coates’ mini excavator hire

For over a century, Coates has been a leading provider of equipment for small businesses and DIYers. Our mini digger hire solutions give you more control over areas of your worksite that require more precise movements.

Choosing the right mini excavator

Coates offers a range of mini excavators that professionals and DIYers can hire for their earthmoving projects. These machines are powerful enough for a range of tasks and can be towed behind ordinary road vehicles for quick and convenient transportation between job sites.

0.8t - 1.8t mini excavator hire

Our smallest offering is the 0.8 tonne mini excavator, which can reach places no other machine can. If you need a machine that is a little more powerful, you can try our 1.8t mini excavators, which can dig up to 2.54 metres below the surface. These smaller machines are ideal for very tight passageways or courtyards in suburban construction projects.

3.0t mini excavator hire

Moving up a size to a 3 tonne mini excavator increases the lifting capacity and dig depth of the machine, making it the ideal machine for a number of jobs around the worksite. Coates’ 3.0t small excavators are significantly more powerful than the 1 tonne machines, and have a maximum dig depth of 2.95 metres.

5.0t mini excavator hire

While still small enough for most spaces, the 5.0t machines enable deeper excavation at a faster rate due to their more powerful engines. These units come equipped with tilt hitches, which eliminate the need to reposition the mini excavator constantly. With a maximum dig depth of 3.67 metres, they are the ideal compact machines to improve worksite efficiency at a range of construction projects.

8.0t - 9.0t mini excavator hire

The top end of mini excavators are the 8.0t and 9.0t models. These units deliver maximum power, performance and dig depth while still being in a mini size. They have a maximum dig depth of 4.6 metres. For users needing even greater dig depth, we recommend looking at a full-sized excavator. The 8.0t and 9.0t models come equipped with tilt hitches.

Small digger hire use cases

Coates’ small excavator hire services can be utilised by home builders and professionals in a number of industries.

Landscapers can hire a small excavator to carry out a number of earthmoving projects, including creating garden beds, excavating for retaining walls or preparing to install pipework.

In the construction industry, a small excavator can help to dig footings for home renovations or create drainage channels to existing properties. Adding the correct attachment, such as a concrete saw, can transform a mini digger into a machine capable of small demolition tasks, such as removing concrete driveways or paths.

Small excavator hire safety & compliance steps

While our small excavators come with detailed safety instructions and manufacturer operating manuals, there are a number of other steps you can take to keep you and your colleagues safe while operating our machines.

Ensure you always wear your seatbelt and familiarise yourself with the controls before operating the machine. Wear the required PPE, such as a hard helmet and high visibility vest, and continually scan the job site during operation for hazards or obstacles.

One other important consideration when operating a small excavator is the position of the machine’s blade. The blade is designed to keep the machine stable when the bucket digs into the ground. While it can be moved around during normal operation, it should be positioned behind the cab of the machine when digging to ensure stability. If the blade is not used in the correct position, the excavator may flip over.
