Hi everyone!

We head to Winton Raceway for another SuperSprint format this weekend, but this time it’s a condensed race format over two days. Friday is usually the practice day for Supercars, but at Winton we won’t hit the track until Saturday morning. It will be a busy day with practice, qualifying and a 120-kilometre race in the afternoon!

That one 40-minute practice session on Saturday morning won’t give us much time to tune the race car, because the focus will be on tuning a car for the three-part knockout qualifying session. I reckon this tightened format could throw a few curveballs into racing. It will be interesting to see whether teams or drivers who choose an aggressive setup to get a benefit in qualifying are then compromised by that setup in the race.

Our team tested there last week, which was pretty successful for all three BJR cars. We’re still lacking a little bit of speed, so we’ll be taking some more equipment and ideas to the racetrack in order to address this.

I’d say the weakness in our car at the moment is that it doesn’t turn hard enough through the middle of the corner. We made some gains in this area on the test day, but there are still more improvements to be made.

Winton is typically a hard circuit to pass on. Having a set up or tyre advantage can make passing marginally easier, but overall getting a strong result is hard work here. You need to get the elbows out and defend your position! A few years ago I managed to hold off the whole field in a wounded car, only to have a run in with James Courtney on the last lap. That was a memorable race for all the wrong reasons!

Winton is always a special event because it’s Brad Jones Racing’s home event… the team’s workshop is based in Albury just an hour’s drive up the Hume Highway. It’s great to be able to have our crews’ families and friends all come to watch the racing and support us.  

Car 8 is running a cool Honda Motorcycles Dealer team livery this weekend. I think the car looks great and is definitely going to stand out on track. My aim is to maintain that top six or seven pace that we’ve had throughout the season so far. If we qualify well, I think we can definitely pressure for a podium.
