What value can modular propping bring to your project?

Modular propping is a modern and flexible temporary works technique used to provide structural support during construction and demolition. Modular propping solutions can provide just the right type and amount of support – whether work is being performed on a residential wall or across the entire span of a bridge.

Benefits of modular propping

Here are some important features and benefits of this approach:

  • With no need for scrapping, modular propping can reduce construction waste.

  • Modular propping is quick and easy to install and dismantle, achieving time and cost efficiencies for customers.

  • It is also highly customisable, with precision adjustments made using a screw jack.

  • No welding or cutting work is required when installing modular propping – which reduces the amount of equipment and expertise required on site, and eliminates the hazards associated with these tasks.

  • For interconnected propping, modular solutions can be bolted, or pinned together (depending on the required load bearing capacity). Multiple standardised holes means there’s no need for additional drilling when fixing modular propping in place.

Coates' modular propping range features equipment with industry-leading capacity, while the props are either galvanised or aluminium to prevent corrosion issues.

Modular propping in action

Many different types and scale of solution can be achieved using this versatile propping approach. These project examples showcase what can be achieved when modular propping is put to work.

Prefabricated propping gives client confidence

Recently, the water main pipe support project at Flinders Park in SA required a propping solution to support the repair of a sensitive water pipe during excavation. Coates Engineering Solutions specified and assembled a 1.8 m high x 14.0m long x 1.8m wide custom propping frame, before delivering it to site for horizontal installation. Building this solution offsite simplified installation and gave the customer additional confidence in the integrity of the build.

Quick turnaround reduces disruption for client and community

In NSW a tower of modular props was recently designed to support sections of the Bunnerungee Bridge during rectification work. The modular nature of this propping solution allowed for quick installation and dismantling, minimising disruption to this busy section of the Silver City Highway. Coates Engineering Solutions worked together with the customer’s structures team to design a solution that wouldn’t disrupt the progress of the rectification works.

Modular formwork support enables easy installation

Modular propping is often used to support formwork during construction. At a major Multiplex project site in Melbourne, modular propping was recently used to support formwork while heavily loaded concrete footings were poured. Having a modular propping solution meant the installation and removal of propping was quick and easy. Being able to move a large propping solution into place in smaller parts also reduced the need for large cranes and installation equipment on this compact construction site.

Seek out industry-leading equipment and expertise

Working with an experienced temporary works provider brings additional benefits and project assurances during temporary works. As well as supplying a wide range of high quality and high capacity modular propping equipment to customers across Australia, Coates Engineering Solutions also designs and specifies, certifies and oversees the installation of modular propping solutions.

To ensure projects run smoothly and efficiently, Coates Engineering Solutions offers true end-to-end solutions from concept design, through to installation and certification. And for troubleshooting and peace of mind, all Coates Engineering Solution customers have access to onsite technical support during installation, and offsite technical support for the duration of the temporary works.
